Impact Strategic Planning Day

Dear Phil

I thought I would take a moment to put in writing the sentiments I expressed in our phone call the other day.

You were recommended to us at a time when our business was struggling to cope with its own success, as order levels from both existing and new clients were increasing rapidly. This meant that we were all so involved working ‘in' the business; we were neglecting to work ‘on' it. It got to the point where - for the company to be able to manage its current and future workloads - we needed to make some radical changes in the way we did business, or face serious problems.

When you asked us all to stop work for a day and instead spend a “Strategic Business Planning Day” we had to trust you. But, one mentally challenging day later, we had insights into the business that we had never before realised and a clear picture of where we wanted to get to – both for the business and individually.

The concept of monthly board meetings was alien to us, something “big” companies did. After just a few months though, it had become an important calendar event. Your involvement in the meetings has helped drive us towards our goals. Left alone we would doubtless be too lenient with ourselves!

Looking back at the challenges we have got through together and the progress we've made towards our strategic goals– I am certain we would have not have achieved these with our old mentality. We were always too caught up in the moment, but now we now look forward to developing the future of the company with our new skills, knowing that the difference between creativity and innovation is in implementation.

Building Success!

In July 2005, i was introduced to a local carpentry contractor that was struggling financially, running the business from the kitchen and a mobile phone. the business had continually struggled in the past and had run into debt with high risk strategies and few systems with which to run the business and as a consequence was only turning over £25K per month.

In just one year the business has been transformed. New strategies have been adopted, a new management team is now in place operating from a fully equipped office and staff and turnover is expected to exceed £1.2m this year. The contracts book is full and a plan of continued expansion underway.

What a difference a year makes!
